Historic Preservation

If you are interested in finding out about the latest historic preservation efforts in Princeton, you have come to the right place!

Princeton Depot
The Mille Lacs County Historical Society (MLCHS), with help from City and County staff, was successful in obtaining a grant worth close to $250,000 to replace the deteriorating roof on the historic Depot.  Work will begin the summer of 2014.

Reconnaissance Survey of Downtown Princeton
The City of Princeton completed an Architectural Survey of Princeton's downtown buildings.  The purpose of the survey was to:

  1. Identify and document all of the buildings in Princeton's downtown for future reference;
  2. Determine the historical significance of the existing buildings in Princeton's downtown; and
  3. Select the 10 buildings to be reviewed as a part of a potential Facade Improvement Study.

The final Architectural Survey can be found below.

Note:  The Reconnaissance Survey was made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008.  Administered by the Minnesota Historical Society.
